Our”123” philosophy:

1. Defining and Designing.

Information is the key. Every remodeling project is unique in different ways and the first step is defining your individual needs according to your scope of work, your particular style, and budget. We can help you, whether you want us to design and manage your entire project, or if you are a “DiY” (do it yourself-er) looking for a professional tradesmen to help complete certain parts of your project.

2. Planning – “the 7 P’s” Proper, Prior, Planning, Procedures, Prevents: Poor Performance.

Just like an automobile mechanic must follow a sequential order to replace a part in your vehicle, it is the same in a remodeling project. Educate yourself before you begin. Defining the stages and categorizing these steps will help you understand what it’s going to take to complete your project, even if you don’t want to be the mechanic! If you are the DiY type this is the stage where you determine how much of the remodeling project you can do, based on what you feel comfortable with doing. Also, make sure you have checked with your city or county officials for the necessary permits. If the house was built before 1978 you must have a “lead paint test” completed before you begin any remodel work that involves disturbing painted areas.

3. Performing the work.

“Work smarter, not harder” Safety is always first. At American Trade Masters we designate work zones because your home has turned into a construction site. Protection of personal property and awareness of potential hazards is critical to any size job. Planning out your work here is just as important as design phase planning.

When to hire a professional? “3 T’s” test:

TALENT
Carefully consider the level of difficulty of your remodel project on a scale of 1-10. Next consider the experience and skill level of yourself and the people who may be involved on the project. Be honest with yourself in evaluating skill level and dexterity.
There are four stages of skill level: 1. novice 2. Apprentice 3. Journeyman 4. Master.
If you are on the lower end of the skill level it may take some practice to develop the skill and it will take longer to get the project completed. The last thing you want is a half completed project or botched job.

TIME
Talent is no good if the time is not available. Estimate the time needed to complete the job in contrast to the time you are able to commit.
Break down the project into stages to get an idea of how much time is needed for each phase and map out a time table. When determining the level of difficulty, be realistic and careful not to “over simplify”.

TOOLS
If not properly equipped, you can make an easy job much harder or end up with an unexpected expensive investment.
